Throughout the year Benidorm is home to many fiestas, events and celebrations. The variety of the themes and the customs that are celebrated means that there is something for everyone and it is not too hard to get caught up in the fun and enjoy the events.
As you scroll through the list below you may be surprised to see that Benidorm Fiestas occur in every month of the year from the first event of the 3 kings on January 5th through to the oldest fiesta in Benidorm, "The fiestas de la Carxofa" that is held in the Old Town area during the 3rd week of November.
JANUARY The Calvalcade of the Three Kings is on 5th January. San Antonio Abad at the Hermita de Sanz. 17th January.
FEBRUARY There are various carnivals, Processions, fancy dress contests and the “burial of the sardine”.
MARCH Done in memory of finding the Virgin of the Suffrage. The Valecian fiesta par excellence is held here each year during San Jose, from 16th March to 19th March. There area total of three “Falla” commisions: Centre Falla, Rincón Falla and Els Tolls Falla who are in charge of placing their respective figures in the different districts. Processions and street entertainment culminate in the “Crema” or bonfire which is held on the 19th of March.
APRIL Semana Santa or Holy Week (Easter) is a solemn ocasion, normally lasting a week, it has religious parades and services which normally last a week and is a fantastic religious festival to witness and see.
MAY Set on the 1st of May, The Festa de la Creu orFiesta of Foietes District is one of the oldest and mos ttraditional fiestas in Benidorm.
JUNE Romeria del Corpus is al festival including horse processions and a bright coloured feria or fair, near the bullring. The Bonfires of St. John. Satirical wood and papier mache figures are on display for several days and then they are burnt on the “nit del foc” which is the 24th June, in the areas of La Cala, Central Market and Old town.
JULY San Fermín. 6th and 7th July. St. Christopher on the first weekend of July. Fiestas of the Carmen held on 16 July. St. James Benidorm’s patron saint, 25th July.
AUGUST Unusally there are no fiestas held in August but the local Town Councils hold live concerts and cultural events for tourists and residents to enjoy. The concerts are normally held in the Aiguera Park auditoriums.
SEPTEMBER A Valencian Harvest Festival is held on the 6th and 7th of September and during the last weekend of the onth there are various parades with dignitaries etc. This parade is held throughout the entire Valencian region.
OCTOBER Held on the first weekend of the month and know as Fiestas of Imalsa II or Valencia Day this is a Regional celebration day with all kinds of stands and stalls selling and showing typical Valencian produce.
NOVEMBER The biggest week in the fiesta calender, held around the 10th to 15th November they run from the second Saturday of the month through to the Wednesday of the next week and are worth a visit. Its an event filled with lots of carnival processions, penas and parties.
DECEMBER Benidorms Christmas Fiestas begin on the 20th december and go all the way through to 6th January. New Years Eve's main events involve a meeting at the clock in Triangle Square to see in the New Year. |
